My black high heels made a faint sound on the pavement leading to the Uganda International Fashion Week pavilion at Kampala Serena Hotel.
I walked in and was met with lights, bright enough for my friends to notice me and wave me over, with well distanced tables to give the spacious feel of a friendly atmosphere without over familiarity.
Saturday night. A starless sky lit with the passion, glam and wonder of fashion. What a night!
When the team at Babishai researched on iconic women to write poetry about, Santa Anzo's name came up unanimously. Featured in our poetry anthology, 'Feeling,' alongside other iconic Ugandan women, Santa is the proprietor of Arapapa fashion house and lead curator of the Uganda International Fashion Week. Saturday 5 September, 2026 was outstanding. It was a fashion week finale that magnified glamour.
It is not just about what you wear but about why you are wearing it.
It was my first ever fashion event of this magnitutde and I was mesmerized by the individuality, the intricate details, the colour variety and of course the stories behind the clothes.
From street wear to high fashion to casual and formal, the accessories and attitude of the models. It was a highly organised colourful and extremely well thought out event.
